According to some history, the temple was rebuilt by a chieftain named Valvil Ori ruling Kollimalai noted for his charitable character.  In the year 1266, Karnataka king Veera Ramanathan donated adequate lands for the maintenance of Pujas in the temple.  Another king Rama Chakravarthi donated more lands to the temple in the year 1541 and 1619. Noted temples of Gunaseelam, Thottiyam, Tiru Engoimalai, Uthamarkoil and Tirunarayanapuram are near this temple. It is believed that Karukudi is next only to Kasi and that Asoka star is circling under the land here.  As the temple is a little away from the place, visitors are advised to inform the priest in advance.

Lord Shiva and Mother Parvathi had granted darshan to all the 27 star deities in this temple.  Yet Star Revathi continued to worship here imagining the great mercy of the divine parents, according to some stories.  Those named Revathi or belonging to Revathi star are advised to avail all possible times to worship in this temple for betterment or at least on their annual star day and offer to Lord and Mother 27 numbers of any auspicious article as 27 Mangal Sutras,  27 blouse bits or 27 food packets and distribute them to the devotees visiting the temple to realize their wishes in life.  They are also advised to perform milk abishek to Lord before 12 minutes of the beginning of Aswini star following the end of Revathi star.

Planet Moon married the deity of the last star Revathi.  (Of the 27 stars Aswini is the first and Revathi is the last).  They wanted to have the darshan of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvathi.  Mother was so merciful and granted darshan to them with Lord.  Lord is called Kailasanathar and Mother Karunakaravalli.  Kar in Tamil means rain clouds.  They are 7 in numbers.  It is said that these clouds worship in the temple on Revathi star days.  It is believed that any special puja performed to Varuna the God of Rains on a Sunday combined with Tiruvadhirai star or on Revathi star would bring sufficient rains both for general consumption and for irrigation needs without scarcity.  This is a special temple for farmers.

Sthalapuranam:

Kala Bhairava, the authority of Time, created seven days under the Poorattadhi star, took them on an elephant in procession.  According to the land history (Sthala Purana) this took place in this temple land. Vimana of the presiding deity (tower above the sanctum sanctorum) is called Gaja Kataksha Vimana.  It is believed that Iravadham elephant (white elephant) and Indira worship in this temple on Poorattadhi star days.

The great spiritual leader of the 20th century, His Holiness Kanchi Sri Maha Periaval chose this temple for meditation and stayed here for a week. Poorattadhi starrers are advised to visit this temple and worship as often as they could or at least on their annual birth star day.  Worshipping the Lord on these days would help developing mental stability and wisdom.  They are also advised to donate clothes of different colours to the poor which would protect them even in their subsequent births washing off all their doings committed knowingly or unknowingly.

We may recall that Sahadeva, last of the Pandava brothers was a man of letters.  He had a wonderful knowledge in astrology.  Duryodhana, the arch rival of Pandavas came to Sahadeva seeking an auspicious day to commence the war against them. He knows the integrity and honesty of Sahadeva who would not, even for high gains, would not betray even his enemy.  Sahadeva gave him the best and true prediction asking him to declare the war against them on new moon – Amavasya-day.  Worshipping in this temple would ensure such knowledge and noble mind to the devotee.  Yet, Lord Krishna played his own trick and advanced Amavasya to defeat the Duryodhanas.

His Holiness Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Swamigal (Kanchi Periavar), Pontiff of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, spent a week in this temple in meditation. This is one of the 70 Mada temples built by Kochengat Chola. Special abisheks and pujas are performed in the temple on all Poorattadhi star days in the year.

Sthalapuranam:

Sage Pundareeka, a staunch Vishnu devotee, was in the habit of visiting “Thirupparkadal” to worship Lord Vishnu every day. He was on his way one Vaikunda Ekadesi day when he got delayed. Therefore he decided to worship the Lord at the nearby village temple before the “Ekadesi naazhigai ” was over. He saw a small temple and Pushkarni at this village which was then called Avani Narayana Chaturvedi Mangalam. After quickly bathing in the pond, he went into the temple only to find a Shivalinga at the Sanctum Sanctorum. Disappointed that he had not got a glimpse of Lord Vishnu as he had expected, and worried that he would not be able to worship him before the auspicious time was over, he walked out of the temple.

An old man appeared before him and asked him why he was so sad. When Sage Pundareeka narrated what had happened, the old man told him that what he had seen was indeed Lord Vishnu’s shrine and invited him to go along with him inside the temple. On reaching the Sanctum Sanctorum, the old man disappeared and Lord Vishnu gave darshan to the Sage as Venkatesa Perumal standing over the Shivalinga. From that day, the Lord is called Pundareeka Varadhan and the Pushkarni is called Pundareeka Pushkarni.

Of the 27 stars, only 2 have the prefix Tiru, Tiru Onam attributed to Perumal and Tiru Adhirai to Lord Shiva.  Tiru represents all auspiciousness.  The beauty and luster of Chandra the Moon began to diminish due to a curse.  One of his wives, the deity of Tiruvonam star performed intense penance on Perumal for his remedy. Pleased with her penance, Perumal appeared before her on a Tiruvonam star day and relieved Moon of his curse.  Since then, this shrine assumed importance for the Tiruvonam star.

Thos born of Tiruvonam star are advised to visit and worship in this temple on the star days, Rohini and Hastham star days and on the third day from the New Moon day called Moondram Pirai in Tamil and perform abishek and archanas to Perumal to gain wisdom.  As this star is specifically related to Perumal all pray here. The standing form of Lord Perumal on the Avudayr of Shivalinga symbolizes the oneness of Shiva-Vishnu worship.  Hence, Pradosham related to Shiva also is devoutly observed in this temple.

Of the 108 Divya Desas – holy places connected with Vishnu worship, Tiruparkadal cannot be reached with human body as it is not on earth.  To make up this loss to the devotees, the worship in this temple gives the devotee the gift of Tiruparkadal darshan, the 107th Vishnu Divyadesa.  There is no Sorgavasal system in the temple.  Instead, there are three entrances through which Perumal can be worshipped directly at the sanctum itself on the Vaikunda Ekadasi day.  This is a rare structure in the temple.

The standing form of Lord Perumal on the Avudayar (stage) on which Shivalingas are installed, represents the philosophy that Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva are not different from each other but one to teach those warring on wrong notions. Also, we see a Sorgavasal separately in all Perumal temples through which Perumal is taken on procession on Vaikunda Ekadasi day. There is no one such in this temple. Instead, there are three entrances through which the devotee can have the darshan of the Lord in the sanctum itself on the day. This is a very rare structure in a Perumal temple.

Vaikunda Ekadasi in December-January and all Pradosham days (13th day both from New Moon and Full Moon days) are festive days in the temple.

You will make decisions after careful thought and with the advice of those you trust. You will not be excessively demonstrative or affectionate. Your life is organized and systematic. As a child you may face a lot of seemingly insurmountable difficulties, but adulthood will provide you with the strength and the tools to overcome many of your problems. You have a purity of intent and a genuineness of purpose that is clear even to those who come to your attention. You are generally self- disciplined and believe in the necessity of law and order. You are pleasant and optimistic. You rarely get disheartened. You will do well by tenacious dedication to a profession. You consult others before making important decisions. Be more dynamic and forceful. You have a tendency to allow others, especially men, to take advantage of you. Don’t let your gentle heart cause you to become involved in relationships and situations that you may regret later.

Sthalapuranam:

According to scriptures, Brahamma had five heads as and equal to Lord Shiva. Since Brhamma was also handling the Creation, He thought that He was superior to Lord Shiva.  To teach Him a lesson, Lord Shiva took off one of Brahamma’s head.  Having committed wrong to Lord Shiva, Brahmma wandered to all Shiva temples for remedy including this temple.  As Brahmma worshipped Shiva here, the Lord is praised as Brahmmapureeswara.  Mother is praised as Brahmmavidyambikai and also as Poongudiyal. The original temple was reduced to ruins in course of time and was built completely anew.  Lord and Mother were named Sundareswarar and Meenakshi respectively.

Aadam means that which existed first.  Of the 27 stars, Uthiradam is the seniormost star.  Hence, all deities of other 26 stars perform Padapuja-worshipping the feet of Poongudiyal heading the Uthiradam star.  The starrers are advised to pray here on these days.  Special abisheks are performed to Lord Shiva.

Special pujas are performed to Lord Shiva on Poornima days-full moon days. Panchamurthis are taken procession this day.  Also Homas are performed early in the morning.  The wedding festival is celebrated in this temple, the same day when Meenakshi Kalyanam is celebrated in Madurai.  On Margazhi Tiruvadhirai day pujas are performed with heaps of flowers at night.  This is a temple with five tier tower. The tank is opposite the temple.

Lord Nataraja graces from a separate shrine as if readying Himself for a dance dressing up His Hair.  Pujas are performed to Lord Bhairava on Ashtami falling in new moon fortnight. Special pujas are performed to Lingodhbava behind the Shiva shrine on Karthika day and on third part of the night of Shivrathri.

Chithirai Tirukalayanam-wedding festival in April-May, Vaikasi Visakam in May-June, Purattasi Navarathri in September-October, Skanda Sashti and Deepavali in October-November, Abishek with conches on Karthikai Mondays in November-December, Margazhi Tiruvadhirai and Koodaravalli fasting in December-January, Thai Poosam in January-February, Masi Magam and Shivrathri in February-March and Panguni Uthiram in March-April are the festivals celebrated in the temple.

Sthalapuranam:

Though we know only Nandi Devar to be in Rishabham form (form of Bull), there are many more devas in this form, and Singi devar is one of them. Once the Lord of universe, Shiva performed “Aanandha Thaandavam”. At that time, Singi was playing “Mirudhangam”. He was so involved in the “Thaala – Layam”, that he did not see Lord dancing. Feeling sad about this, he came to Lord Shiva, and asked permission to do a pooja to Him. And as Shiva accepted his request, Singi performed pooja in this sthalam, and the Lord got the name, Sri Singeeswarar. Goddess Parvathi has the name of Sri Pushpa-Gujambaal here. Just like performing Abhishegams for the Lord, it is said, performing floral decoration is a specialty in this temple on “Aadi” and “Thai” month Fridays. Reciting Lalitha Sahasranama is considered very special here.

In the Gopuram of Sri Singeeswarar, “Adalvallan” and “Urthuva thaandavam” sculptures were present, and were very captivating. Similarly, Godess with Lord Muruga in her laps, was extremely good. In some temples, she is named, “Pillai – Idukki Amman”

There is an idol of Sri Anjaneya playing the Veena.  Those aspiring skill in music pray to him in particular.  He belongs to Moola star.  It is noteworthy that the birth star of Kalaivani-Saraswathi, the Goddess of Wisdom is also Moola.  It is said that Mother Saraswathi wrote the Singanatha seed letters (Beejakshara – Beeja means seed, Akshara-letters) on the tongue of Sri Anjaneya with the stem of a lotus flower. This gave the Indian Herculeus clarity in his speech and an ability to protect people in distress using tactics needed for the time.  He was celebrated as Sollin Selvan in Tamil and Nava Vyakarna Pandit in Sanskrit.  Moola people are advised to pray in this temple for gaining excellence in education and speech.

There is a shrine for Sri Veerabaleeswara in the northeastern corner of the temple the antiquity of which dates back to 5000 years. If one prays to the presiding deity and Nandhi (the bull vehicle of Lord Shiva) simultaneously at Pradosham hours (4.30 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. each day) standing on the Nava Vyakarna stone, they will be cured of all bone and joint related diseases, it is believed.   People would realize their wishes if they pray to Mother Durga for 42 weeks continuously by lighting lamp in the shrine.

The temple was built by Aditya Karikalan II in the year 976.  He is the father of Rajaraja Cholan who built the Thanjavur Big Temple.  Later during the reign of Krishnadevaraya, his viceroy Dalavai Ariyanadha Mudaliar used his influence and built the Rajagopuram-Main Tower, compound wall and 16 pillar Mandap in the year 1501.

Pradosham, the 13th day either from new moon or full moon and Mahashivrathri in February-March are important festival days of the temple.

Those born in Kettai star are advised to worship in this temple as often as they could or at least on their birth star day.  It is noteworthy that Peria Nambigal was born in this star.  His birth star day is grandly celebrated in the temple.  The starers pray to the Guru for betterment in life.  They offer white vastras, offer jasmine garlands and light ghee lamps in his shrine.  For nivedhana, they offer Vada and adhirasam, popular dishes of Tamilnadu.  For lighting lamps, they also use special oil prepared with three herbals which is available in the temple itself.  People suffering from impaired vision, pray to Koorathazhwar.

Margazhi Kettai in December-January and Purattasi Saturdays in September-October are celebrated in the temple.

Sthalapuranam:

A Chola king used to worship Lord Nataraja in Chidambaram each day.  When he crossed the place once, the wick of the lamp extinguished.  They could not light it despite repeated efforts.  It began to burn automatically when they crossed the place.  This happened every day.  He could not find the reason.  He enquired a shepherd in the place whether anything strange occurs in the place.  He told the king that there was a Shivalinga in the place pouring milk.  Finding the information true, the king wanted to raise a temple for Lord Shiva in another place and tried to take it out but it began to bleed.  The king built the temple in the same place on Anuradha star day.

The place is called Tirinindriyur as the wick stopped burning (Tiri-wick) and also as Tirunindravur as Mother Mahalakshmi (Tiru-Mahalakshmi) worshipped here.  In the Navagraha shrine (9 planets) Sun and Moon are facing each other, a different form in this temple.  People pray here on New Moon days for the salvation of their departed ancestors.

There is an axe cut scar on the Shivalinga.  Parasurama Linga is in the prakara worshipped by Sage Parasurama.  Lord Jamadagneeswarar graces in the form of a small Shivalinga with Parikeswarar Linga in a bigger size nearby.  Sage Jamadagni is the father of Sage Parasurama.  There is also a shrine for Lord Vishnu.

There are three tanks around the temple as a garland.  Saint Samabandar has mentioned the sacred spring of the temple as Neelamalar Poigai – Blue flower tank.  He has also mentioned in the hymn that those pray here will be free of sins and fear.  Those born of Anusha-Anuradha star pray here often or on the star day or on their birth days.  They also pray on their wedding days, Dwadasi day (12thday from New or Full Moon day) or on Varalashmi festival days.  They cover Lord Shiva with sandal paste and decorate with Madula fruit pearls seeking a happy future.

The significance of the temple lies in the wick story getting off and on during the travel of the Chola king to pray Lord Nataraja in Chidambaram and the miracle unveiled by the shepherd.  The shrine is praised by Saivite Saints Sambandar and Appar.  Though every one irrespective of their birth star pray in the temple seeking remedy from adverse planetary aspects, those born in Anuradha star attach more importance to the temple.

Sage Jamadagni could not excuse his wife Renuka for appreciating the handsomeness of a Gandharva whom she saw in the shadow of the water.  He ordered his son Sage Parasurama to chop off her head.  The son obeyed.  He sought a boon from his ferocious father to grant him his mother back.  Father too obliged. Both father and son came to this place, worshipped Lord Shiva for relief from the sin of killing Renukadevi.  Lord appeared before both and cleansed them of their sins.   Mother Mahalakshmi also worshipped Lord Shiva here.  As Mother worshipped here the place is known as Tirunindravur.  (Tiru-Mahalakshmi).

The temple has a 3 tier tower.  Vinayaka of the place is praised as Lord Selvaganapathy.  Muyalagan the symbol of ignorance or a demon under the feet of Lord Dakshinamurthy in the corridor-prakara has a snake in his hand turning on the left, the Lord blessing him with His left hand.  There is a shrine for Lord Selva Ganapathy in the corridor.  Special pujas are performed to Him on Anuradha (Anusham) star days.

Those facing debt burdens pray to Lord Vinyaka to come out of the predicaments they are in and it is firmly believed by devotees that their prayers are duly responded by Lord Vinayaka.  Lord Subramania graces with His consorts Valli and Deivanai on the peacock vehicle with its face rightward.

Generally, those born of Anuradha star command respect among relatives. They occupy high positions and have the luck of being honoured by the Government. They understand the mind of others and behave accordingly.  They are fond of touring places.  They will not be frank while speaking to others.

Aani Tirumanjanam in June-July, Mahashivrathri in February-March and Tirukarthikai in November-December are the festivals celebrated in the temple.

Sthalapuranam:

Once there was only Vel – the weapon of Lord Muruga, in the temple.  The priest of the Temple, Poovan Pattar was performing pujas for the Vel. While he was relaxing under a tamarind tree after the puja one day, Lord Muruga appeared in his dream and said that the hill belonged to Him and that He was in the form of an idol at Kottaithiradu, a little away from the place.  Lord asked the priest to go to the place where ants would be moving in a line and that He was there.  The priest informed the king.  The idol was taken from the pit and installed.  The temple was built by the Pandala king.

It is believed that Pithrus (departed ancestors) live on the steps of the hill.  Hence, performing Tarpans to them at this place would greatly benefit the following generations.  The devotion of Sivakami Ammayar with steadfastness and determination carrying the stones for building the temple is a thrilling story.

Elephants were used to carry stone pillars and beams to the top of the hill while building the temple.  Those were the days when strong ropes were not available, they used ropes made of palm fibres and sometimes they gave in resulting in their rolling down.  When they were cut off and rolled down, it is said that an ascetic women, Sivakami Ammaiyar dared her life and stopped the stone with her head, crying Muruga, Muruga.

Till the stones were pulled above, she would be holding them by the head with the power granted to her by Lord Muruga.  She also carried bricks on plantain stem strips.  There is an idol of Sivakami Ammaiyar in the temple. Mookkan: Poovan Pattar, the priest of this temple went to a place called Kottai Thiradu and dug a place pointed by Lord Muruga.  While digging, the crow bar touched the nose of the idol and slightly damaged it which also added beauty to the idol.  Seeing this, the people of the place called the Lord Mookkan.  Mookku in Tamil means nose. The tradition of naming the children as Mookan, Mookkayee and Mookkammal arose from this name of the Lord in Tirumalai Murugan temple in Tirunelveli district.

Also, if children are born dead consecutively in a family, they take the vow to bore the nose the child and name it as Mookan so that the child would survive.  Even male children would be wearing nose ring here till the age of 15.  This ceremony is followed on the third child if the earlier two did not survive in delivery.

Generally, people believe that Aiyappan temple alone was built by the king of Pandala while he built this Tirumalai temple too at the border of Kerala.  Places known for Aiyappan worship as Ariangavu, Achankoil and Kulathupuzhai are around this place.

One Sivakami Ammal was living in this place with her husband Gangaimuthu Thevar.  They had no child.  Deciding to erect a stone mandap in the hill temple, the woman carried bricks and stones to the temple with such determination and faith seeking child boon.  Yet, she could not realize her wish.  One Varadar Masthan, a saint of the place advised her to adopt Lord Muruga Himself as her son. The lady readily accepted and willed all her assets to Lord Muruga.  She also sued against some in illegal possession of properties belonging to the Lord in Puliarai village in the Tiruvananthapuram court producing epigraphic evidences and recovered them.  The copies of these epigraphic evidences are still available.  As the lady spent all her life in the service of Lord Muruga, she was called Sivakami Pardesi.

There are 625 steps to reach the temple at the hill top.  This is also called Tirikoodamalai.  At the entrance of the hill, there is a shrine for Lord Vallabha Vinayaka.  There are two Padukas – Foot Symbol.  There is another Vinayaka shrine in the middle of the hill path followed by one to Idumban.

The sacred spring at the top of the hill is called Ashta Padmakulam.  It is presently called Poonjunai.  A flower called Kuvalai mentioned in Tamil literatures blossomed here.  Only one flower would blossom a day.  The seven virgins (Saptha Kannikas) worshipped Muruga.  While the idols of Saptha Kannikas are found only in Lord Shiva temple, they are installed on the banks of the spring in this temple too.  The seven powers of Mother Parvathi are called Saptha Kannikas.

Those born of Visaka star should visit this temple at least once in their life time.Three herbal plants grew in this hill named Odavalli and Nalamoolika representing the powers of the stars Visaka, Kruthika and Uthara related to Lord Muruga worship.  It is believed that the roots of these herbals were used and worshipped along with a Dhanakarshana Yantra for acquiring wealth.  Though these herbals could not be identified now, it is certain that a positive change in the life of those visiting this temple is evident.  The V in Visagam means supremacy and Sagam means light.  Visagam star has three lights in it called Vimala Sagam, Vibhava Sagam and Vipula Sagam.  As all these three lights exist in this hill temple, Siddhas had said that Viskam starrers should worship in this temple for great benefits.

There are 16 steps to Lord Vinayaka Temple praised as Shodasa Vinayaka.  Shodasa in Sanskrit means 16.  The number represents 16 wealth such as education, courage, success, material wealth etc.  On the first of each Tamil month, feeding is organized by a Devotee Association from 6.00 a.m. till night.

Step festival on the first of Chithirai falling mostly on April 14, Vaikasi Visakam in May-June, Skanda Sashti in October-November, Karthikai float festival in November-December and Thai Poosam in January-February are the festivals celebrated in the temple.

Sthalapuranam:

One day, God invited the Nava Grahas to His kingdom.” Tell me, ” he said, ” which among the 27 nakshatras is the greatest? ” All the Nava Grahas preferred their stars of exaltation, because it was here that they felt most comfortable. Therefore, Surya voted for Ashwini, Chandra for Kritika, Budha for Hasta, Sukra for Revati, Kuja for Dhanista, Guru for Pushya, and Sani for Swati. Since there was no consensus, God wanted Rahu and Ketu to vote for one of the stars already mentioned above.

This irked Surya and Chandra, who complained and said that demons were not fit to vote on such divine matters. But God waved aside their protests and said that, in His kingdom, all were equal, and so both Rahu and Ketu had as much a right to vote as any of the other Nava Grahas. Both of them agreed with Sani and said that Swati was the greatest of the nakshatras.

Once again, Surya and Chandra protested, but God ignored them and said, ” Swati it is, then! But first, I think that we should know why exactly it is Swati. ”  Sani, who had first said that Swati was the greatest, stood up, bowed low before the Lord, and said, ” My Lord, I did not vote for Swati merely because it is the star of my exaltation. Neither did I vote for it because it is owned by my good friend Rahu, who owns Kumbha along with me. ”

God knew this, and He also knew what was coming next. But He pretended to be surprised. ” Why then, pray tell me, did you vote for Swati, Sani? ” ” Because, my Lord, this star signifies a desire to attain Your kingdom more than any other star. ”  ” Liar! ” screamed Surya, rebuking his son. ” How can a star owned by hedonistic Rahu signify Godliness? ” He then turned to God and said, ” My Lord, I request that you turn my son Sani out of Your kingdom. ”

” Silence! ” thundered God, ” You may be Sani’s father, Surya, but remember, that I am everybody’s father, including you. Keep quite now, or I shall tell Rahu to eat you! ” Surya sat down, trembling with fear.” Continue, Sani, ” said God in a calmer tone. ” In what way does Swati signify desire to attain My kingdom? Who taught you this? ” ” My Lord, I learnt this from a bird called the common hawk cuckoo, which is also called chatak or papiha. ”

” Pray, my son, please enlighten us. What is so special about this bird? ” asked Surya, keen on getting intoGod’s  good books once again by showing affection to his son. ” Father, the special thing about the chatak is that it will drink only rain water that falls when the star Swati is rising. “” Hah! ” said Surya, reverting to his customary arrogance. ” Is that all? Is this the only thing great about the chatak? ”

” Father! You are so proud of your kingdom that you fail to realize the greatness of small things. The chatak will refuse water from even holy rivers like the Ganga and the Yamuna. Even if it is offered water from a sacred temple tank, it will not drink it. In fact, I will not be surprised if it holds even the nectar of immortality in contempt, preferring instead the rain water that falls on a Swati. ” ” Son, ” said Surya, ” Being at the outer edge of the solar system, so far away from me, has no doubt confused your brains. Why else would you confuse
silliness with greatness? ”

” This is not silliness, but greatness, father, ” said Sani. ” And being away from your blinding light, I have savoured the darkness and contemplated long upon things dear to me, like Vairagya and Viveka. To me, the chatak is an exemplary example of both. ” ” In what way? ” demanded Surya.” Thanks to the Viveka possessed by the chatak, it is able to discriminate and realize that the water that falls on a Swati is the greatest. Because it practices Vairagya, it is able to give up its desire for all other sources of water. ”

Before Surya could interrupt him, Sani continued, ” This is what man has to do. He should shun everything-pecially the power that you can offer, father–and choose only God. Only then will he attain Moksha. ” Surya was quite keen on rebuking his son again, but a quick glance at God’s smiling countenance convinced him that if he spoke now, then God would surely set Rahu upon him. Sani continued, ” The chatak also shows us that the path to God is not easy. God, though pleased with the chatak for shunning all other water bodies, still tests the chatak to see if its resolve to taste only the rain water of Swati is strong. The chatak, by being firm, shows devotees that they must be willing to put up with hardships in order to realize Him. ”

When Sani finished, God was immensely pleased with him. ” Sani, your explanation is wonderful. From now on, you shall be called Swati Ucchan not just because you are exalted in Swati, but because you have grasped the inner meaning so beautifully. “As Sani bowed low before God, the other Nava Grahas applauded him. Budha, ever keen on depicting his poetic wit, and on having the last word, said, “Excellent, friend Sani! From now on, may Swati be to Sani what Swaha is to Agni! ”

A king, while commencing the renovation of the temple, found the idol of Mother, named Her Poonguzhali and erected a shrine.  Those facing obstacles in their marriage proposals, perform abishek to Lord with gooseberry powder, juice and seeds and milk to Lord and offer green vastras and bangles to Mother and light ghee lamps.
