Male:

You are an imaginative man with a quick wit and clever conversation. You advise and criticize others, but are particularly concerned with their opinions. You need to be propelled in to action rather than act on your own accord. Parental luck will be unsteady, so watch it carefully. Your interest in other people could be cause for anxiety and jealousy at home. Be cautious in all your dealings. Do not trust anyone totally. You find it hard to change your word or break your promises. The early part of your life is spent in supporting your family. You do not make or retain good friends early. You may experience divorce, disappointment, or significant delay before you are happily married. Your marriage may be result of an unusual situation. However, you will be happy in your life partnership, and you will find relief and comfort in the loving care of your wife.

Female:

You will be intelligent and pleasant. But you are women of determination and you will strive to achieve your goals. You will be lucky enough to share your life with a partner who understands you and thinks enough about you to act according to your needs. Though you are affectionate, others may question whether you give your spouse the same degree of affection that he gives you. You do have a vivid imagination and striking communicative ability. Your capacity for analysis and criticism is also innate. You are capable of assessing situations and giving people practical and useful advice. However, it would help if you showed concern and interest while dispensing advice. Your off-hand manner may be interpreted as lack of genuine concern by others. You are stronger mentally than you are physically. Take more than a passing interest in the world around you. You have the ability to focus your attentions on a specific goal. Pay attention to your health, since intervention can prevent a variety of problems.

Sthalapuranam:

This is the sacred soil that gave birth to Kaduveli Siddhar.  Kaduveli means open space.  He taught people wisdom he learnt.  He performed penance for darshan of Lord Shiva.  Lord appeared before him and gifted skills in Siddhis – an art of 8 branches known as Ashama Siddhis.  This needs an elaborate explanation. The temple was built by a Chola king.  Of the elements covering the earth – Akash-space, Vayu-wind, Agni-fire, Appu-water and Prithvi-Earth, this temple is dedicated to Akash, hence the Lord is known as Akashpureeswarar.  The king named the place after the Siddha – Kaduveli.

Lord Akashapureeswarar is the authority on Pooradam star.  As Mother grants all prosperity and happiness (Mangalam), She is praised as Mangalambikai – Mother of prosperity.  It is believed that all the deities in the space and Vasthu Bhagwan ( the authority confirming building plans in accordance with orthodox rules, which is, of late, being adhered even by atheists to avoid hardships and ensure peace in the family) worship Lord Akshapureeswarar on Pooradam days.  Devotees worship the Lord with all cosmetic substances.  The temple did not have the idol of Kaduveli Siddhar earlier.  The idol came out when some renovation works were undertaken a few years back. Sri Nandideva moved outside giving way to Kaduveli Siddhar to worship the Lord. This is also the temple for those praying Siddhas revered as Mahatmas.

Those belonging to Pooradam star come to the temple seeking reliefs from the doshas they are subjected to.  Those facing obstacles in their marriages, worship on Pooradam star day burning incense powder (Sambirani) smoke.

Aipasi Annabishekam in October-November, Thai Poosam in January-February, Shivrathri in February-March, Navrathri in September-October and Panguni Uthiram in March-April are the festivals celebrated in the temple.

Humility in behavior is apparent even when you are a young boy. But someone who is close to you will turn against you. As a man, the second half of your life will be much more comfortable. You will excel in your chosen field; but, set reasonable goals for yourself. Your mother will dramatically influence your progress in life. You are considerate and respectful of others opinions, but do not believe anyone blindly. Simplicity of principles and values appeals to you. However, it is vital that you have someone to direct and guide you in youth. You are self-confident. Problems may arise during your marriage which may even cause a separation; however your progress in life is dependent on the presence of a supportive partner. Therefore it is wise to minimize tensions. General cleanliness is important to you. But you can be comparatively weak and therefore prone to agitation over miner matters. Better keep stomach problems under control.

Female:

Your youth will be turbulent since you will either endure or cause considerable problems as a little girl. But later you will gain strength, wealth and will-power. Your rise in life depends on your assessment and use of your talents. You are friendly and sincere. Therefore, you attract a variety of men to you. You are frank in your opinions, even to the point of disregarding your own best interests. You appear very bold and courageous on the outside, but you tend to doubt yourself and others. It is thus hard for you to trust men. If you not curtail this tendency, you may create problems in your relationships. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Take comfort in all that You are without worrying about all you could be. You are generally quite lucky and this luck will prove beneficial both to you and to the person you love.

Sthalapuranam:

Sage Bruhu was performing penance here surrounded by Vanni trees.  A chola king raised high sounds to hunt a lion thus interrupting the penance of the sage.  He cursed the king that he would have a lion’s face as he has chosen this place for hunting where sages are engaged in penance.  The king begged for a remedy.  The sage suggested that he bathed in Vettraru river known as Vruddha Cauvery and worship Perumal.  The king followed the advice of the sage and got back his human face. The place assumed importance for Mrigasheersha star as the king was relieved from the Mriga (animal) face.

It is believed that Sage Mrigandu is still worshipping in this temple invisibly.  It is also believed that Perumal would appear on Garuda, if Mrigasheersha starrers worship here as often as they could or on the star day.  Procession deity Sri Aadhinarayana Perumal graces with His discuss and conch along with consorts Sridevi and Bhoodevi.  Those seeking a job commensurate with their qualification and a job with a decent package are advised to perform abishek to Perumal on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Nitya Garuda Seva:  This is a Vaishnava temple with presiding deity Perumal appears on Garuda in the sanctorum itself.  We see Perumal in temples in sitting, standing or reclining form only.  The Lord appears on Garuda only during festivals. This is a temple where Garuda Seva is available to the devotee every day. Mrigasheersha starrers worship here for quick solutions to problems they face.

Besides Mrigasheersha starrers praying in this temple for relief from adverse planetary effects, those seeking child boon, early happy wedding crossing the obstacles, afflicted by Naga dosha-snake aspects, Pakshi dosha-bird aspects, suffering from skin diseases, threatened by enemies, family unity and upset by recurring death incidents in family, and child health problems pray in this temple on Poornima days (full moon days) and Mrigasheersha star days.  It is believed that performing Tirumanjanam to Perumal on Wednesdays and Saturdays yield all happy results and bring relief to all from any problem the devotee faces.

Lord Narayana grants darshan from the sanctum sanctorum generally in three forms – standing, sitting or reclining. His eagle vehicle Garuda appears either just opposite the Lord or by a side. During festivals Perumal comes on Garuda. As the story goes, since Perumal set out fast on Garuda to help a king in this place, He appears on the Garuda in the sanctum sanctorum too. This is a very rare form in a Vishnu temple. Hence, Garuda Seva is followed in the temple every day.

Sthalapuranam:

Banasura belongs to the demon community.  His mother was Madhiniar.  She was a staunch Lord Shiva devotee.  To facilitate his mother’s Shiva puja, Banasura was bringing many swayambu Lingas.  He once came to Tirupugalur and found countless Lingas.  He found a Swayambulinga but could not move it.  He dug a deep and vast Agazhi around the temple and tried to move the Linga again but in vain, except that the agazhi was full of water springing from the ground.  He decided to end himself in frustration.  A voice from the sky told Banasura, “I will make myself present for your mother’s Shiva puja”.  Lord in the name of Konapiran with Punnai flowers on His head, appeared before his mother.  After the puja was over, Lord returned to Tirupugalur.

This is the sacred land where Saint Tirunavukkarasar respectfully known as Appar Adigal attained salvation after serving the Lord by cleaning Shiva temple grounds and paths to enable devotees to walk comfortably with an instrument in his hands called Uzhavaram.  This land is praised as Salvation Centre.  Appar festival begins 10 days before Chithirai Sadayam Star dayin April-May.  The events includes his home coming from the Jains, the greatness of his Uzhavaram, dance of Deva women and his merging with Lord at the midnight of the fourth day festival.  Every devotee would be moved to see this episode only with tears in his/her eyes.

There are two shrines in the same temple for Saint Appar Adigal and Saint Sundarar.  Lord Agnipureeswar (Swayambumurthi), also praised as Sharanyapureeswarar, Pratyaksha Varadar and Konapiran is gracing devotees from a shrine.  Mother Karundhar Kuzhali, also praised as Sulikambal blesses devotees from other shrine.  Lord Vardamaneswarar and Mother Manonmani are in a separate shrine.  Muruga Nayanar served Lord Vardamaneswara by preparing garlands for Him.

This is also the place where Agni Bhagwan worshipped Lord Shiva and got relieved from a curse.  Though he has no form as such, he appears here with two faces, 7 hands, 7 jwala sparks, four horns and 3 feet.  This is a rare Agni Bhagwan idol. Lord changed the bricks into gold bars for Saint Sundarar in this holy place.  Those building new houses bring bricks to the temples for vasthu and bhoomi puja to make the new building all prosperous.  Also, Mother Karundhar Kuzhali was gifted with a piece of land for her services to a woman in labour pain and is praised as Sulikambal.  There is no and will not be any infant or maternal mortality in this place, a belief people strongly hold. The temple has a single shrine for Emperor Nala and Sani Bhagwan in the temple.  After Nala came out of a bath from the Bana Theertha, a voice from Sani Bhagwan said that He would leave the king from his adverse aspects at Tirunallar 7 km far from this place.  Saturn-Sani Bhagwan is this temple is praised as Anugraha Sani – merciful Sani.

The grace of Mother Karundhar Kuzhali towards Her devotees is boundless.  Sool in Tamil means pregnancy.  As She took care of a woman during her labour time and ensured safe delivery of the child, She is praised as Sulikambal.  Women strongly believe that nothing untoward would happen to them or the child as they under the direct grace of Mother Sulikambal.  People pray to Her offering vastras for child boon.
Three Murthis in the temple, Bhoodeshwarar, Varthamaneswarar and Bhavishyeswarar are the symbols of past, present and future.  This is the birth place of Muruga Nayanar who worshipped Varthamaneswarar offering garlands made by him.  He has three faces – human, bird and a swine.  As devas sought asylum here for protection from the threats of demons, the place is also praised as Pugazhoor.

Vasthu purity is an important basis for constructing buildings.  This is a science that deals with the designing of the apartments in a particular direction – Kitchen, bathrooms, main hall, bedrooms etc. – at appropriate sides.  This would avoid any invisible troubles entering then.
This is a temple noted for Vasthu prayer.  Before beginning the construction, people use to bring the bricks to the temple, perform archanas and take them back for the building work. Pregnant women worship Ambica for safe delivery.  According to the Sthala Purana, Ambica Herself as a midwife took care of a woman in labour pain and ensured safety to both mother and child.  A prasad oil is offered in the temple for the purpose.  Devotees worship Lord Agneeswarar for mental peace.  They are blessed with boons of wedding, child, job opportunity, progress in trade, promotions and welfare.

10 day Vaikasi Poornima Brahmmotsavam in May-June with an event of Lord granting darshan to Agni Bhagwan,; 10 day Appar Baktha Utsav in Chithirai beginning on Sadaya Star day in April-May; small festivals each month and on pradosha days of the month, Deepavali in October- November; Pongal-Makara Sankranthi falling almost on January 14 and Tamil and English New year days are the festivals celebrated in the temple.

You may experience many problems, in arenas of friendship and family relationships. Although you may be basically honest, others regard you with suspicion.

You enjoy wealth and leadership, and you spend much energy on achieving your goals. You are clever and can change your opinion to suit the situation. Hence you are perceived favorably by many people. Some people may think you are a egotistical and self-contained. However, you do reveal your secrets, but only to those you trust others, especially in romantic situations. If you express appreciation enthusiastically, your married life will be much more pleasant.

Sthalapuranam:

Sage Durvasa was engaged in his Shiva Puja when a Gandharva (a community in the celestial world) mocked at his old age appearance.  The sage did not mind it.  Yet, the Gandharva continued the mischief and even called him by clapping hand moved before him as a cancer-Nandu.  Angry sage cursed him born a Nandu.  Realizing his folly, he sought the pardon of the sage.  He was advised to perform Shiva Puja to gain his original form.  He came to this place as a Nandu, bathed in the pushkarini, picked up flowers and worshipped the Lord.
Meantime, Indira the king of Devas also came to this place to perform Shiva Puja as advised by his Guru to acquire a power to conquer the demons.  He used to bathe in the pushkarini and did Shiva Puja with 1008 flowers.  Every day he found one flower falling short.  He saw the Nandu doing puja with one flower.  He thought that he was the only one worthy of doing Shiva puja and a Nandu was notqualified for the puja and tried to kill it with is sword.  Lord made a hole in His Lina body to help the creature to escape Indira’s attack.  Yet, the Linga was injured by the sword cut.  Lord appeared before Indira and said that one cannot succeed by arrogance but by humility alone.  As Lord granted salvation to Karkadaga-Nandu, He is praised as Karkadakeswarar.

A swayambulinga existing in this place then g0t buried under the sand here.  A chola king was ruling this place then.  He had an attack of paralysis and no doctor was able to cure him.  He fell at the feet of Lord Shiva finally.  An aged couple came to his court, gave him the water dissolved with sacred ashes.  The king got up completely cured and requested them to stay in the place as royal doctors which they declined.  He offered them gifts of gold which too they denied to accept.  When the king asked them what exactly they wished, brought him to this place and asked him to build a temple where the Shivalinga was then and simply disappeared then.  The king understood that the visitors were but Lord Shiva and Mother Parvathi and built the temple.  People pray to Lord here for relief from disease-Pini in Tamil.  Saint Gnanasambandar has mentioned Lord in his hymn as Pini Neekkum Shiva.
Generally, we find only one Ambica shrine in Shiva temples.  There are two Ambica shrines side by side.  During the construction of the temple, Ambica in the place was lost.  Hence, a new Ambica idol was made and installed and named Arumarundhu Nayaki meaning that She came as a medico.  Within a few days, the original Ambica idol also was found and installed with the name Apoorva Nayaki.  She is the main Ambica of the temple.
This is the temple to seek relief from the Karkadaka-Cancer in English and Nandu in Tamil-zodiac sign comprising of three stars-Punarvasu, Poosa and Ayilya.  The hole on the body of the Linga created by the Nandu and the scar caused by Indira is still visible.  There is a shrine for Moon-Chandra at the entrance of the temple.  Those having problems due to Moon aspects pray in this shrine.

Sri Vinayaka of the temple is worshipped as Karkadaka Vinayaka.  Lord Muruga with His consorts Valli and Deivanai graces from a shrine in the prakara.  Lord Nataraja appears in a Sudha Sculpture.  There is no shrine for the Navagrahas the nine planets.  As Indira realized his mistake and corrected (Thirundhuthal in Tamil), the place is named Tirundhudevan Kudi, the name is not familiar with the people of the locality.  They know the place as Nandu Koil only.

Maha Shivrathri in February-March and Tirukarthikai in November-December are the festivals celebrated in the temple.

Sthalapuranam:

Sage Mruganda Maharshi organized a great Yagna for the Lord of Nalladai.  He also announced that the materials required for the Yagna may be contributed by the public.  They wove three silk clothes with gold and offered one to the Lord, one to the Rishi and the third to their king.  At the end of the yagna, the rishi put two clothes given to him and the Lord in the Yaga Gunda-the fire pit.  The public raised the question “would the clothes placed in the Yaga Gunda reach the Lord.”  The sage asked them to go and see it for themselves in the sanctum sanctorum.  It was a pleasant surprise for the devotees to see their product covering the Lord in all freshness.

The sage explained that of the various types of Agni, Bharanai Rudragni was one and that power took things they gave to the Lord.  Hence, the Nalladai temple is attributed to Bharani star. Vilwa, the sacred tree of the temple has a story.  One day, the Chola King of the day and Sivanesa Nayanar came here to worship the Lord.  A tiger chased Nayanar who climbed on the tree nearby.  After a while, when he came to the Kundangulam tank, the animal still followed but was killed by the Nayanar.  Lord appeared before Nayanar and blessed him.

Bharani starrers are advised to visit this temple as often as they could and worship Lord Agneeswara.  The proverb goes that Bharani people would rule Dharani-world meaning that they will be very popular. They are advised to perform Homas to the Lord who is Agni-Fire personified.  The benefits would be double if they do so on the Bharani star day in Karthikai-November-December.  As the temple is facing west, it is said that praying in such temples would bring great benefits to the devotee as the Lord would be furious in nature here.  Mother Sundaranayaki graces facing south.  In order to reduce the heat of the Lord, a slope like form is made around the Shiva Linga filled with water. This is the place that wove clothes to Lord Himself, it is named Neithaladai – weaving fine clothes.  In the days following, it shrunk as Nalladai.

Presiding deity Lord Agneeswarar was known earlier as Tiruvanneeswaram Udayar, during the Puranic Age.  Chithirai festival in April-May and Vishaka festival in May-June and Margazhi festival in December-January were grandly celebrated in those early days. Saivite saint Manickavasagar was taken in procession on Tiruvadhirai day.  Such other details that the temple was administered  by a committee headed by Kasiban Koothan Mummudi Cholapattan and that land was donated by the king for maintenance of the temple to offer nivedhanas to the Lord and lighting lamps are available from epigraphic evidences.

The temple covers an area of two acres.  There are entrances on three sides of the temple with towers.  There are shrines for Dwara Vinayaka, Balamuruga, Selva Vinayaka, Lord Mahavishnu, Somaskandar, Mahalakshmi, Sani Bhagwan (Saturn), Kailasanathar, Kalyani, Bhuvaneswari, Chandikeswara,Veerabadra, Lord Dakshinamurthy, Sun, Bhairava and Mother Durga in the corridor-prakara.  As Lord Shiva Himself is heading the 9 planets-Navagrahas, there is no separate shrine for them in the temple. It is noteworthy that famous Shiva temples of Sembanarkoil, Keelaparasalur, Tirukadayur, Tirunallru are very near to this temple.

Aipasi Annabishekam in October-November, Karthikai Somawar-Mondays of Karthikai in November-December, Margazhi Danur pujas and Arudra Darshan also called Tiruvadhirai in December-January, Thai Fridays and Thai Poosam in January-February, Maha Shivrathri in February-March, Panguni Uthiram in March-April, Panchamurthi processions on Karthikai Sundays in November-December are the festivals celebrated in the temple.

Sthalapuranam:

Gorakka Siddha came to this temple on his pilgrimage to Shiva temples.  He stayed in a mutt here where many devotees were also staying.  While he woke up at midnight, he was shocked to see a woman sleeping by his side and her sari on his hands.  As a repentance, he cut off his hands and stayed in the mutt for some time.  He bathed in Chandra Pushkarini and worshipped Gnanapureeswarar and Pushpavalli.  Pleased with the devotion of Gorakkar, Lord appeared before him and restored his hands.  As hands were cut here, the place is called Korakkai and as the Siddha worshipped with short hands (after being cut), it is called Kurukkai. Changing with times, finally, it is now Korukkai.

Two demons Madhu and Kaidapa snatched the Vedas from Brahmma and hid them under the sea.  They were redeemed by Lord Vishnu and handed back to Brahmma. Yet Brahmma could not perform His creation job efficiently.  As Advised by Lord Vishnu, Brahmma worshipped Lord Shiva here and regained Gnana-wisdom on  Avittam star day in the month of Aavani and resumed His creation job efficiently.  As the Lord imparted Gnana to Brahamma, he is praised as Gnanapureeswarar.

The place assumed Avittam star importance, as Lord Brahmma attained wisdom on this day.  It is advised that Avittam star people visit this temple as often as they could or on the particular star day or birthday or on the star day falling in the month of Avani (August-September) and follow a step by step pradakshina which would favourably change their destiny totally.  Devotees pray here for the education of their children, business development mental peace.  As there are lines in foot too as in our fingers, it is advised that the step by step pradakshina should be done by pressing the feet so that the prints should be recorded in the temple soil.  The temple was built during the period of Kulothunga III.

Shravishta or Avittam star people are generally well to do and are popular with public support.  They are majestic in look and self-confident.  Though short-tempered, they adopt a cautious approach calmly.  They give due respect to their wives. There are shrines for Vinayaka, Muruga with His consorts Valli and Deivanai, Adhikara Nandhi with His consort, twin Bhairavas, Sun, Dakshinamurthi, Brahmma, Mother Durga and Lord Arthanareeswara in the corridor-prakara.  Patteeswaram and Darasuram temples also are nearby.

Avittam starrers pray here for relief from any adverse planetary reasons. Devotees pray for removal of obstacles in marriage efforts, good education and for brain health and family unity. It is believed that praying the twin Nandhis in the temple with a garland made of cashew and groundnut would fetch expected results to the devotee. The temple is in a dilapidated condition. Avittam starrers and the public are requested to contribute liberally for the renovation of the temple. Mahashivrathri is grandly celebrated in the temple in February-March.

Sthalapuranam:

Mother Parvathi wanted to know how Lord Shiva is conducting the affairs of this world and asked Lord Himself about it.  Lord played a trick that Mother Parvathi in a playful mood covered His eyes with Her hands.  Within a fraction of second, the activities of the world came to an abrupt halt.  Shocked, Mother Parvathi sought the pardon of the Lord for Her playing.  Lord said to Mother that she made the world dark by covering His eyes with Her hands and added that He would now disappear in the Hasthavarna jyothi (light from hands) and that she must find out that light in the form of a cow and join Him again.   Parvathi came to earth and began to search for the jyoti with the assistance of Her brother Lord Vishnu.  On a Hastha star day, the jyoti appeared.  This is also praised as Gomalia Jyoti.  Mother Parvathi joined the Jyoti.  As the Lord offered his blessings (Krupa) He is named Krupakupareswarar.  This is the story behind the temple.  Mother was named Annapoorani.

People born of Hastha star are advised to visit this temple as often as they could for the relief they need due to astrological reasons and especially on the Hastha star days.  Krupakupareswarar is all merciful pardoning wrong doers if they sincerely feel for their deeds.  It is also believed that great saints and siddhas are going round the temple invisibly on Hastha star days.  Hence, Hastha starrers are advised to pray on this day with nivedhanas of sweet puddings, vada, laddu praying to Lord and Mother Annapoorani with folded hands and go round the prakara for blessings. Those with confused minds and aspiring for a peaceful life may pray here on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Those belonging to Hastha star are fond of dresses and ornaments. They show interest in education.  They enjoy music, dance and other fine arts, talkative and humorous in nature.  They voluntarily make friends and are more attached to mother. Mother Parvathi took the form of a cow and worshipped here, hence the place is named Gopuri (Go-Cow, Puri-place) and Gomal.  Lords Vinayaka, Muruga, Lingodhbava, Dakshinamurthy, Brahmma, Nandhi and Chandikeswara grace from the shrines in the prakara. Mahashivarathri in February-March, Margazhi Tiruvadhiai in December-January and Tirukarthikai in November-December are the festivals celebrated in the temple.
